MAKING CONNECTIONS: I made a connection between Charlie and myself. We are both middle school athletes who also have cousins who are exceptional athletes. Charlie's cousin, Roxy is an incredibly talented basketball player, my cousin is an extremely talented soccer player who plays for LAFC u17. Charlie says, "Roxy is the best middle school player in the club... no one can beat her".

CHARACTERIZATION: The author shows that Charlie Bell is depressed and scarred from his father's death. It is shown on page 162 when Charlie asks "why can't he come back" and "I miss him so much... my life will never be the same". He is unable to get over the fact that his father will never return. The author showed he is scarred and depressed from his father's death.

ANTAGONIST: The antagonist is the trauma that Charlie has from his dad's stroke. He thinks about the day that his dad died and what relationship he could have had with him. On page 49, he says, "Dad would never do that... I wish he was here and you weren't" when arguing with his mom. His trauma holds him back from new experiences and worsens his relationship with his mother.
