So many of these cancer drugs/treatments were discovered serendipitously! It’s very interesting to think about the difference between science for the sake of science vs for the sake of accomplishing a certain goal (e.g. curing cancer). Seems so many things could be lost by reducing funding in more niche or obscure research, as research interests begin to reflect more corporate interests…

Omg omg wait Brian Druker is one of the cofounders of MolecularMD (my company that got bought by ICON). This is crazyyyy.
For context this guy developed the first drug for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) at OHSU and then went on to co-found our company. One of the diagnostic tests we run is to detect CML!
