i do like her coming to the ball as a surprise and being announced with his name to a room full of people who don't know he has a wife lol, that's a scene a reader can vividly picture.

Nick is telling his brother that he is WORRIED (not upset, but worried) that she chose him for the convenience, not for love. But he himself forced her to marry him, part of the coercion being that he will help with the estate... I get him being upset, because he has feelings, but why worried as if he doesn't already knows this, as if he himself didnt organise it IN THIS EXACT WAY?! What???

i hate s-x scenes in the middle of an argument

in what world is he saying "im sorry we could not have the kind of wedding you have dreamed" - YOU LITERALLY COULD HAVE. THE ONLY thing you had to do is NOT say she is compromised in front of a duke? on your own free will? and you could have had any kind of wedding? all the time in the world to prepare for one? WHAT ARE YOU EVEN SAYING

I thought I had read the worst romance books already in my time, but an actual forced marriage 2 chapters before the ending... That's a new low. I don't know if I'm entirely against fake marriage tropes in books, but forced ones? In the end of a book? Absolutely insane and not in a good way. Why?? Just why?

oh my god, FIRST OF ALL, this book is kind of ruining my love for the third book, as the main character of the third book is shown in a reaaally bad light. AND SECOND OF ALL, did NICK REALLY JUST SAY IN FRONT OF ANOTHER MAN (A DUKE!!!), that Isabel has been compromised?? Why theee fuuuuuuu......... would he do that??? This aint love, it's is blackmail. Ugh. I've been so 50/50 about this book and now this.

by the end of chapter 7 ive decided its actually cute. everything is almost out in the open and therefore the damsel thing must be done. i think. i hope. it's such a cute story now tho. i like it. :))

it now has a cute "pride&prejudice"/"i capture the castle" vibe: cousin Lara is in love with another one of the men, and enough time has passed since the first chapter in the city, so it's easier to forget that there are supposed to be regency rules that are just... missing. AND there's a forced proximity trope now!! Maybe I just needed time to properly forget the AMAZING 3rd book or that they're connected at all.

chapter 7: great now she's falling off of the roof. if she is so non self-reliant why isnt she described as more panicked or naive of her situation, when it is her own pov? it's just bad writing at this point, not merely a stupid trope.

and its again one of those tropes, just like with the first one, that once it is introduced, you know these scenes are going to constantly happen until the end. so if you don't like this trope you have this impeding doom feeling of knowing its gonna happen again&again
