Nhung Joke aside, I loved camus’ style - his writing and his philosophy in this book, at least. I liked how he described the sense of rightness and courage without using big words or overwhelming emotions. It was just a moment in life when someone decided to do the right thing simply because that was what they had been taught to do, or had been practiced it in their whole life (in dr. rieux case), and there was nothing wrong with that. It was better to do the right thing from the start, rather than going through a phase of recognition and development, and then (if one was lucky) fixing the problem. But in most cases, luck was not on their side.

and also robin buss is now officially my favorite translator, ever, from the decorative, romantic tone of monte cristo, to the blunt, melancholic and anti-climaxed of the plague, he delivered well (at least to me, a non-french/english speaker)
