Walter Elliot is a superficial wanker (academically speaking).

Interesting decision to start here. Most people begin with the more popular works. Keeping an eye out for your thoughts. I hope you enjoy this, Mark. :)

I hope you enjoy this, Mark. :)"Thanks Rosh - picked this one because I love the cover (it's not the one on the icon here - I couldn't find the edition I have) - anyway, it has me intrigued already and I can't wait to read it in bed soon!!!!
Antoinette wrote: "This is my favourite of hers- great place to start. It’s Jane’s birthday today- great timing:)"Yes, I thought of you when I heard about it on BBC News this morning Antoinette - did you celebrate???
Beda wrote: "I love Jane Austen, and today is her 250th birthday! 🥳Hope you enjoy this book, Mark!"
Yes, I only learned that after I started this one last night Beda - I see this is on your TBR!!!!! Thank you :))
Jeannie wrote: "Jane Austen is my favorite! I hope you enjoy this one."All I see is 5 star ratings for this one Jeannie - the pressure is on, thank you :))
I really loved this novel. Surprisingly, it's a very different style of writing and is more sombre and poetic compared to Austen's other novels which are full of clever wit. Happy reading, Mark. : )

Even more pressure when you realize that your fans on GR will rake you over the coals if you don't like it!
Diane wrote: "Even more pressure when you realize that your fans on GR will rake you over the coals if you don't like it!"Oh dear, Diane!! More pressure - and our group of GR friends can be quite unforgiving right? I remember when I threw the 'lazy' term at Austen for writing so few books a while back, the feedback I received was strenuous to say the least. To be fair though, she did die young (41 I think), poor thing. Thanks for your usual comfy support my friend 😛🤡😩
One of my all-time favorites!! The movie version, with Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds is fabulous, too. Scrumptious.

I'm more of an Elizabeth Bennet than an Anne Elliot, but Anne Elliot has my heart, forever. What stoicism and reserve she possesses, particularly amid the chaos of a narcissistic father and sister and nonsense all around.Yes, please, new pics of the Wandering Aussie, please!
