Nobody does description like Tolstoy does description.

I have just been plunged into a detailed account of an election completely unrelated to the plot and am once again questioning Tolstoys intentions regarding what he chooses to include. I have to assume it contributes to an overall theme regarding society that will unfold as i read on.

I am loving the character development and feel deeply attached to each character as it proceeds. As we get deeper into Levin's story, I have to wonder how it is going to tie into Anna and Vronsky's and the overall plot in general. As much as I love his story, it just feels like an appendage, but I am looking forward to see what Tolstoy does with it.
