did some further reading and found that jackie cooper’s involvement with the monkees project was crucial. the funding he provided bob and bert helped them begin the audition process. i find it quite fascinating to see how “old hollywood” and “new hollywood” ended up intermingling during a transitional era like the 50s-60s. the entertainment industry was being actively filled with fresh faces and even newer media— times were changing and so were the people. folks like jackie helped build a bridge between the old and the new. he provided support for newer artists. he helped promoted the changing times, and, thus in turn, nurtured success.
