Started James A Michener's 1959 historical novel "Hawaii" in prep for our family's first trip there in a week. The first short section deals with the evolutionary process of the islands' formation. The next section, which I am in, covers ancient peoples from Bora Bora, located south of the Hawaiian islands, and how Michener imagines they lived, including sacrifices to their god Oro. It is brutal! Love it so far!
