I think living in Uganda for so long you undergo a sort of habituation to the beautiful environment that constantly envelops you. Reading Ryszard's descriptions of a typical shamba envoke a special nostalgia associated with how I felt when I first set foot here, when everything was novel and newfangled. Its nice. "This is Uganda - lush, riotously overgrown, endlessly germinating, multiplying, and seething."
