Lisa - OwlBeSatReading 🦉📚 This sounds good! I wonder why it has a low star rating though 🤔

Simon I have no idea, well maybe I do. The prose is quite trippy, minimalistic gothic, I really struggled at first.

It really scratches the underbelly of shadier side of Georgian London.

It's quite gruesome and there's some upsetting stuff involving children, animal cruelty, murder of unfortunates, opium taking, prostitution etc.

It's quite good once you get your head around the prose, but definitely not for everyone

Simon Also, I would say look at the rating for The Loney. We both enjoyed that and it's 3.2 or something. For this one think. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Burke & Hare, Sweeny Tood BUT darker.

I like a prose that has to be worked for, providing it’s not too weird or taxing on the brain 😅 you’ve definitely made it sound like my thing, although a bit dubious of the kids and animals content.

That’s true, average ratings aren’t the be all and end all, for sure.

Simon the child thing is just an image the author throws at your brain, then it moves on. Very clever. The animal thing is one scene but it's longer and horrible.
