This book pulls at the human heart strings. If you can’t feel the humanness in this story, I don’t know what will. Steinbeck illustrates the struggle of the Joad family in great and powerful detail. I teared up throughout the story. Amazing storytelling.

Steinbecks ability to make the characters and their relationships with each other and the world around them, is incredible. The way he can transport us to this time through the landscape, the people and their prejudices and their language, is a skill I could never dream of attaining.

I found The Pearl and East of Eden reading, like butter. Grapes is a bit tougher to gain a fluid read, due to its Oklahoma language. I find myself tripping on my words continuously. But, of course, Steinbeck is a genius writer and I am loving it.
