Excellent book that concentrated only on the first year. Whereas most books simply cannot go in depth for each month, this does for 1861. The presidential transition, the lack of support by President Buchanan, the regional fall out in California, Missouri and elsewhere; Charleston, Ohio, first battles, the freedom for the Blacks that escaped and more.
