This novella has turned out to be about mental health issues, specifically a young woman in an elite high school in California. Emma started there shortly after her mother died from cancer and actually excelled, but then.... her younger sister passed away too. That was the 'last straw' causing Emma to spiral out of control, getting entranced with fire and self-immolation. Her father, a lawyer isn't helping.
