I love how this book is pretending to be self-aware.

Some authors can pull off meta fiction very well, Louise Erdrich and William Goldman being two of them. I don’t like this.

That foreword written by his wife was way too nice. I don’t think this author cared very much about women at all.

This scene is adding absolutely NOTHING to the book! Like so many scenes in this book!

These tiny little insights into Maria’s character are infinitely more interesting than the endless descriptions of her beauty. It’s so frustrating. There’s a good book hiding somewhere in here.

The editing really could be better, as could the writing.

There are male authors who can write female characters very well. I don’t think this author is one of them.
