Of all the authorial arts, the one that Islington has truly mastered is pacing. He knows how to grab and pull the reader through the pages, both through individual scenes and the overall plot of the book/series. World-building is also impressive, albeit apportioned almost too precisely: readers know exactly what is necessary and not one whit more. The world feels like a clock with no slack in its mechanisms.
