Ofwel, de betekenisloosheid van de wereld kan niet middels religie of rationalisme verklaard worden. ‘Sin’, in deze context ‘hopeloosheid’ neemt geen afstand van God, het leídt niet naar God. Er is volgens Camus geen verband tussen hopeloosheid en God.
