I understand where you’re coming from, and I don’t say this to be rude or start drama, but I know that a lot of people, including myself, use this app as a form of social media, and that means sharing what’s happening in their lives other than reading. A lot of the updates I see or make are for fun and just to share what’s going on with other people and myself.

@Bella I know it's a form of social media, a form of social media specifically for books. yall can make groups & chat about those things. that's what I do with my friends. we have groups we use to chat with each other instead of making status updates about everything that goes on in our lives and clogging people's feeds. I can't even see reviews or status progresses anymore.

You can filter your feed to be only reviews if you want, but to us the updates aren't useless, they're a way to gain support, find friends, and share common interests. I'm not at all trying to be rude; I just want you to see it from another perspective.

And while yes some of the updates are frustrating that’s how I meet most of my friends. Sometime I (maybe others too) want to put something out there to see if people agree or what their thoughts are about it so I know if we have common interests. Just like Autumn this is not at all meant to be rude but just to put my thoughts out there so you can see another option. God bless you and happy holidays!

@autumn I know I can do that. I also want to see progresses on books. a lot of my friends are reading books I enjoy & I want to see their progresses & reactions. not only that, but I add books to my tbr based on the status progresses I can see. so no, I will not be using that feature. I'm not trying to be rude either! I'm just sharing my perspective!!

@skyler I met a lot of my friends through updates too! but sometimes, these updates can be for the DUMBEST thing ever. like I've seen so many that are like, I'm going to sleep. I'm going to take a shower. I just got this and that. I'm home alone, my cat did this. how are you making friends through these updates?? if they're updates about interest and stuff Idm them, I get why'd you make through those updates! happy holidays to you as well!

i can tolerate most of them, i interact w random updates often and i also post updates lots but it gets to a point

i unfriended several people cos of this (and same with polls that are in no way related to books or writing sawryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy)

i get it ig but if you only want book stuff filter your feed to only be book stuff. or you could just unadd everyone and solely look at reviews. this started as a book logging app, but this is more than anything a reading COMMUNITY. where we can talk to eachother. i love the irrelevant updates. it’s fun to talk to eachother. if you don’t want people to talk to eachother, then you shouldn’t be on goodreads where there are status updates.

@sofi u can check what I said above for this! I'm not repeating what I said. I do love talking to people on here, but it gets to a point. like please let me know what use a status update of 'I'm gonna go to sleep' does for a community? it just clogs feeds. not only that, but I've gotten multiple warnings from goodreads that I cannot post updates reading or status, or post reviews because the feeds are clogged. i can be anywhere I want. and this is goodreads, an app for books. to talk about books. why can't we take this to the private groups??

Adding on to what @maryam said theres been a lot of drama and hate going through status updates which isnt what I want to see as a book reviewer. I can’t change my setting to only book updates because then I won’t be able to see book STATUS UPDATES. Also I can’t block everybody who makes these updates because it’s a LOT and it’ll make them think I hate them when they notice they can’t comment on my updates + I have really good friends who interact with these unnecessary updates and breaking our friendship just because of things that can easily stop is so stupid

as I mentioned above, I love to see book status updates or book progress updates. I get to see people experiencing my favorite book for the first time. I get to see my friends thoughts on books their currently reading or planning to read. so I will not be using the review only feature

I agree that some are l annoying but also I think of this as a community and ive met some of my closest friends here and through updates, so I like some of them. For example updates that are just like “I’m going to bed!” or “six seven” are unnecessary but when someone’s sharing something important in their life or just a relatable or funny update i like it (and it’s an easier way to meet people than a gc)

@ava we all met many of our friends through updates. updates about books and hell even tv shows, idm it when they're about stuff like that. I also dont mind when someone has an achievement I love to congratulate people and I've congratulated many through these updates. but some updates, don't get me started.

@maryam i get it, and some of the status updates do get annoying, but at the end of the day this is a community app. a book community, yes, but some people want to share what they want to say to multiple people, not just some special people in a private group.
