What did he think was going to happen? He was told not to and to wait until things could be contained and he did not because ????
Also the contradiction of saying an accent is British and then following with the character knowing exactly where they were…
I know this means Queen’s English because that’s what people mean when they say British. However, it is no less frustrating.

Right, right, right, when mentioned it is as an “offhand reference”, so completely not the same way that other historical events are being spoken about. You know it is mentioned in an offhanded way because it is quoted to be so, and isn’t at all left up for the reader to make inference of. This is how you know the character is “bad” and the main character is “good”.
