The guards have been punished Avery. The guards slipped her a razor in the shower. In hopes she’d end her life. They searched her room after.
Damon brings Avery to Grey in his room. “You have an hour. Fuck if you want. Just figure your shit out.”
Whitman(?) is targeting Avery to get back at grey, Damon Grey: “when I find out who framed you. I am going to make their nightmares seem like a happy place.”
“We didn’t frame you. We killed for you” he admits to killing Sam because he touched what was his. “I don’t like sharing. It’s ingrained in me not to want it. It destroyed my father “
Grey knew her history. They have access to all the files. And still wanted her. Flaws and all.
Avery says she can’t give up either him or Theo. Because she wants to be honest w him. Can’t have a relationship built on lies. He says he’ll try not to kill Theo - because it’s more protection for Avery. Even tho he hates it.
Chapter 17 - grey & Avery finally 🥵 🌶️ 🔥
Ryan Thatcher - new intake. Dr. Christopher smith , the physiatrist said to deliver a message. “Nice try. Something about being one step behind.”
Damon pulls Avery from therapy. Feeds her. Both aknowledge that they tolerate each other for Grey.
Grey confronts Theo. Theo: “if anything happens to her while in your care. I’ll dig your grave myself.”
Theo now brought to the society. He gets to protect her to free time Grey gets to protect her during class time
Chap 22- grey shares Avery w Theo 🥵 🔥 LAWWWDDDDDD
Avery tells Theo about Wittingham’s punishments and how he asked her to spy Theo has been assigned to protect Avery Theo: “If souls exist, I don’t have one. You’re the exception.”
Theo’s sister committed suicide because of loving two people. They tried to make her choose. He killed them both. So they died together just like they should have “lived together.” (ie. all 3 of them together in a relationship.) which is why he can agree to share w Grey.
Avery tells Theo about her not being able to kill her dad with a gun she got. “So it was my fault it kept happening” (her dad stabbed her, had his friends rape her etc.) Theo: “it was not your fault.”
“Loving both of them feels like breathing.” —I love this message. That a woman can be in a relationship with two men.
Damon was the mastermind behind the plan of making the three of them be together and work it out.
Avery pulled into meeting w Arthur Wittingham. Alexander, & Christopher Smith (psychiatrist). Got a new psychiatrist to take half the patients. Alexander, threatens her with solitary isolation for a week. Pin her to the wall.
Damon comes up “what’s happening? Family reunion without me? I’m hurt. Get your hands off Avery.” They let her go.
“Oh fuck off father sav what ever pathetic. Bullshit you were about to say for someone who cares.” Alexander is Damon’s FATHER
Damon.: “I’ve been kicking your ass since I was 13. — I’ll be taking Avery now.” And she sinks into Damon. Stays strong.
Avery tells Grey & Damon how Alexander came and when she was arrested. Her social worker told her he was on the board at Lilydale. Said he was there to deal with her “admission” and if she would be allowed back in. They would only allow her back in if she followed stipulations. She does think it’s too quick about the facility reputation hence it was ruled a suicide. Not a murder.
Damon asked for Christopher Smiths work load to be lighter. Because Damon thinks he wants to take some of the control.
Christopher is Damon’s cousin (Alexander’s nephew).
Chap 28 - Avery. Theo. & Grey in library 🥵🔥

New psychiatrist - Dr. William Elsher(?!) “Your history and metal illnesses make up the person you are.” “No they fucking don’t. I have mental illness. I’m NOT mental illness I’m more than what you paint me as psychologically.” He dismisses her.
Damon & her seem to be SLOWLY accepting one another. Takes her to morgue - to look for Vivian Capellos body. It’s not there. Even tho she “killed herself this morning”. Damon doesn’t believe she killed herself. Doesn’t think she’s dead at all.
Chap 30- Avery puts herself out. “We need to protect you esp if there’s secrets going on.” Damon: “they’ll put you in solitary confinement.” Avery: “I know. — You need to protect the king.” (Referencing her chess ♟️ games w Christopher.) Damon: “I have no idea what she’s going on about.” She wants to distract them. Cause they need more time in the morgue to investigate. Damon shoves them both into a casket⚰️ in a storage room, not allowing her to take the fall. Their bodies pressed together. She’s gripping onto his shirt in silence. Anxious about being caught. Damon starts to notice his feelings — her defiance her, her grabbing my arm, her arguing, her caring. It snaps something inside me. HE KISSES HER.
Avery tells Grey about Damon kissing her. Grey is PISSED. Fucks her in Whittinghams office after he kills a guard. - stabbed him in the eye, cut off his lips & ear. Then stabbed him in heart.

Theo, Grey, & Damon meet in library. Theo says he’ll get Avery after her session w the new psychiatrist cause he doesn’t trust anyone. Christopher storms into library. Arthur is freaking out about the dead guard in his office. Grey says “he made me mad.” Christopher: “You don’t understand. You set things in motion. It’s happening- today.” Damon: “idk what you’re talking about.” Christopher: “you think you’re the only one who knew Arthur’s plans? I tried to stop it all along” Chris says “Avery has been on Arthur’s list from the begining.” Admits he framed Avery for killing Sam. All 3 of them go after him. Grey gets him by the throat. Explains he was trying to get her out of Lilydale so Arthur and his dad couldn’t get their hands on her. Damon assumed cause Avery was so close to Grey they would “choose someone else”
Lolydale has a generous contract w the government do human testing on mentally ill youth for scientific research. It’s how they get the bulk of their money. “Charity donations barely keep the electric on”
They go to find Avery. Right now. All 4 of them. Run into Jillian who say they lost control of the cameras. Of everything.
Avery had appnt w Dr. Markle first then the new psych doc while all this was happening. Markle gave her the “normal pain killer” . Mid session of her appointment w Dr. Elsher. Arthur comes in. Kneels in front of her. Her vision & speech start to go - Arthur “take her to the doctors. They’re waiting for her.”
AHHHH CLIFFHANGER. THE CAST - Corvin king, Joe Arden, anthony Palmini, & Marie Hawkins are FUCKING FANTASTIC. bring so much emotion, depth, desire, frustration, dominance, all so exquisitely to the story. Listening to the story in Audible made it SO GOOD I couldn’t stop listening. And I am not usually an audio book listener. I usually only listen to graphic audio. But this was SO GOOD
