on the mere calculation of chances, it does not appear in the least unlikely that a dream imagined by anyone who dreams constantly should occasionally come true. Not long ago, for instance, I experienced such a fulfilment of a dream which seems to me in no way remarkable and to have no kind of psychical significance. The manner of it was as follows.

And at that moment sheer unreasoning terror again possessed me. I did not know what I feared: I simply feared.

“Jack will show you your room: I have given you the room in the tower.” Quite inexplicably my heart sank at her words. I felt as if I had known that I should have the room in the tower, and that it contained something dreadful and significant.

Berengaria I think this is the one with the evil painting of the dead woman?

Benson was an interesting one for me as his ghost stories almost always take place in broad daylight or in middle class situations. One motors out to the countryside to visit well-off friends for some social occasion. No dark and stormy nights or wandering academics for him. I found that interesting.

That's the one! I'm reading this as I learned it was adapted for this year's A Ghost Story for Christmas on the BBC to be broadcast on Christmas Eve, starring Joanna Lumley and Tobias Menzies. Usually they've done M.R. James stories but now they're looking further afield. In 2023 it was Conan Doyle's mummy story Lot No. 249 and in 2024 it was E. Nesbit's Man-Size in Marble filmed as "Woman of Stone."
