I love a good short story. And I love smart, creative horror. I sought this book out after learning that one of Baxter’s stories, In Vaulted Halls Entombed, inspired the eponymous episode of my favorite animated anthology, Love Death + Robots. The story itself features Lovecraftian eldritch horror in a modern, military context; the creeping dread, cosmic horror, and dark finale are *chef’s kiss.*
