It feels like Ben’s parents are missing or gone, suggesting a terrible storyline there.

Also boy pretending to be an old man chasing the case.

What is of interest: his power seems to be a two way street and the recipient can sense/see him when he uses it.

What is less interesting is the academy, must wear capes, endowed individuals seem to be “known”, which is exceptionally odd. It’s like you can do magic, cool.

Still seems derivative.

Seems like most of this feels contrived. This could very well feel like an Harry Potter extended universe. His uncle seems to be picking up more as a character, but ben is suspicious as hell.

So far the book seems to be following the formula of a kid who’s socially introverted who lives with a creepy family and will be attending a mysterious boarding school.

I do think the origin myth for the powers can present an interesting tone to the story as you don’t really know which lineage these folks descend from.

Most interesting character so far is Mr ominous and the cats.
