Chapter II

Pitcairn Island was discovered by Europeans in 1767 by Commodore Byron of the Swallow. (23 years before the mutineers found it.)

Absolutely LOVE the perspective of the opening paragraphs… movement and light… a global, bird’s eye view.

Chapter I

Later accounts were recorded and set down in 1850 (60 years after the establishment on Pitcairn), which were obtained from Arthur, the son of Bounty man Matthew Quintal.

Accounts were also published which came from tellings by Eliza, daughter of Bounty man John Mills.

“At the end of a decade, only one man and ten women (out of 12) were left… (O)f the sixteen dead (men), fifteen had come to violent ends.”
