The flashbacks about two young college hockey players with a secret relationship threatened by external pressures sounds like it would be a much more compelling story than the one I’m reading. They a convo clearing the air and getting their priorities as coworkers established in ch 25 which came about 20 chapters late, imo

There were some genuinely hurtful things that Darcy did in the third act breakup. Like picking work over their date. But it felt like all of that stuff which would have been good conflict because it was tied to character flaws that had gotten some set up, was overshadowed by a stupid misunderstanding. When they arrived at the meeting, why didn’t Raquel say it was just for Darcy? Nat never wanted to be a host

On chapter 59 of 70-whatever and unless things change drastically in the next 100 pages or so, this might be the worst thing I read all year.

Walking away from this for a few days was a mistake because not only is it still boring but I’ve lost track of whose voice is whose when they’re in scenes together because they sound the same.

I really don’t understand what they see in one another besides physical attraction. Even in college, it felt a lot like instalove. The author keeps telling me that they have deeper feelings but she’s not showing that. They just hated each other and now they want to kiss, supposedly they have great chemistry. Every beat of this relationship is rushed or not shown on the page.

The pacing of the relationship and how info about their shared past is revealed to us makes this book super boring

Not gonna lie, I feel some schadenfreude for Raquel deciding that bringing on Natalie to be cohost with Darcy because their antagonism will make good tv and then having to deal with their childishness when they’re not on camera.

These book is trying to convince me these characters secretly like and have feelings for one another and I’m not buying it.

The frustrating thing about this book so far is I don't feel like I understand all the reasons they don't like each other. Not because the author has clearly planned to unveil them in a well-paced and plotted manner. It feels like they're kind of piled together as the author decided to add them for funsies. It's often framed as a US-Canada rivalry thing first and not an interpersonal thing though it clearly is that

I know this is supposed to be rivals to lovers but the fact that we're told one second how desperate Darcy is go work on-site at the Olympics with her network to the point where she isn't going to let her history with Nat jeopardize that to the first thing she says to her is unpromptedly bitchy, why...?
