Soon she would be in America, the land of the free, where perhaps she could have the love she had always dreamed of, could lead a better life than her mother’s. - why did her husband-to-be come all the way to Palestine to find a wife? He moved to America when he was 17, now he is 30. Wouldn't or couldn't he find a girlfriend in the US and build a life with her there? Didn't he want to assimilate?
