the concept of ilya rozanov playing for a canadian team...pretty close to home, huh?

The sun was low in the sky when Ryan and Fabian left the restaurant. They walked north, up Church Street together, both with their hands in their coat pockets. Ryan knew this thing wasn’t a date, but if it was it would be the best one he’d ever been on.

There were two people in line in front of him, so Ryan stared up at the menu, confirming that they had iced chai lattes. He mentally rehearsed placing his order. Ordering food was always one of his most embarrassing problem areas; he tended to stammer, and sometimes ordered the wrong thing, or the first thing he saw. If a server suggested something to him, he would order it even if he didn’t want it.

Good god. Ryan was losing his mind. And that certainly wasn’t something he could afford to do. Not again.

Ryan looked straight ahead as he entered the plane. He did not look at the bolts on the aircraft’s exterior, or the intricate mechanics visible around the open door. He didn’t think about how crucial it was for every single one of those bolts and wires and thin plates of metal to stay together; that the slightest malfunction could cause the fiery death of everyone on board.
