She unconsciously diminishes his profession, and you can tell this was written from a woman perspective. Guys don't think like woman do, but the men in this story act in a way that are filtered in a feminine gaze. I should know, I never had a sister. Only brothers.

In my experience, if guys say that they are thinking about nothing it's true. I am the youngest girl in a house full of boys. I've never had a sister. Also, the MMC is avoiding his parents because they are getting old. I'm not diminishing his pain, but I would give anything to see my father grow old.
