The book has done a great job at presenting the sociological, political and religious forces behind the push for zionism in the west. So far the foundational ideas and movement behind the birth of zionism has been the most interesting part of the book, especially when it comes to evangelical christianity and their role in the founding of the jewish state.

Revisiting WW1 to analyze how a 19th century political movement metastasizes as the West loses itself to trench warfare is always interesting. In a few pages the book showcases how the pieces planted for decades leading up to the war sprout in the form of a British cabinet willing to set forth the colonization of Palestine, and also makes a discrete statement on how the levers of power fall in line in our world.

The narration of Theodor Herzl's contributions to Zionism are perhaps one of the most interesting parts of both the movement and of the book so far. Going from failing to push the Anglo-Jewish elite in London in favor of Zionism to institutionally lobbying British politicians on the backbone of working class Jewish support marked the final level of maturity for the movement and will never not be fascinating to me.
