Another relatable fact:
One of the comforts of middle age, I find, is the comparative peace of mind which engulfs one when one has finally decided what to put on. When young, one's evening can be ruined by the thought that one's shoes are the wrong colour, or one's hair needs shampooing.
Advancing age has its modest compensations.

The Easter holidays are probably more welcome
I than any other, for they mark the passing of the darkest and most dismal of the three school terms and they herald the arrival of flowers, sunshine and all the pleasures of the summer.

Done with the first book: No Holly for Miss Quinn. This book was all things that summarise my life this week: slow paced, no big deadlines to chase, that elusive contentment which a mother longs from solitude. Sigh! Once again reminds me of why I love Miss Reads books.

But, cool and far-seeing, Miriam found none of them as attractive as the prospect of a life free of domestic responsibilities, free of children and free of a life-long partnership which she doubted if she could sustain. With her upbringing, marriage would be for life, and sometimes, watching her hard-working mother, she wondered if she would ever be as selfless.
