I *get* that this is popular science and I love nonfiction books that are written accessibly and not overly dense in order to keep out the proletariat. BUT there is a difference between writing so anyone can understand and calling some historical person “dude”…… which tbh if I do it or a woman does it it’s probably funny. I think I just hate Bill Schmitt personally (I do not know him at all lol)
