Getting ready to read Deliverance, I re-read Special Forces from when Dan met Matt till this chapter. I needed to be reminded of how it all started. How Hooch and Matt were right at the beginning. The monosyllabic Delta opportunist and the horny bouncing puppy baby Jarhead. The first successful match for Dan's Dating Service.

They just work don't they? Just like Dima and Markus did, but in a different way. The other part that was very pertinent for me was when Vadim and Hooch were in Berlin. When Vadim helped Hooch understand he wasn't an "opportunist" and I really understood what a masochist Hooch was. Matt also showed Dan, how willing he was to take over and direct another mans choices. Dan coming to Vadim all sleek, dressed and waxed made what happens in Deliverance very in character for both of them.
