i was beginning to lose interest in this book due to my own, self-imposed hiatus from it; however, the end of chapter 19 not only reined me back in but has also convinced me to bump my initial rating up a star.
ripping off your own finger to survive is such a Jude move, and i cannot help but be impressed. i approve. good job, rook. quite clever.
also love how isobel becomes queen at the end, in proper Jude fashion.

i like isobel, and i wanna know what her true name is. God bless, she isn’t annoying: her decisions seem realistic and sensible.
rook’s cool, too. making all fair folk vain, and him especially so is such a funny character trait.
gadfly being the spring court prince was a fun reveal, too. the plot seems overly complex at this point, tho, for a standalone; so, i’m intrigued as to how all this is gonna wrap up.
