I've read about the Northeast and Southeast. Without fail it's a tale of the indians' (chiefly Cherokee and Iroquios) struggle with the endlessly advancing frontier. Europeans shatter the idea of a reciprocal universe - the indian view of the world. Assimilation and displacement were the only options offered by Europeans, both which tore at the fabric of indian beliefs.
