DNFing for now. Just too cliche for my tastes

So why is this YA if the main character is twelve???? I know technically 12-24 is the YA age range but I think this places it solidly into Middle Grade

And we have Unrealistic Horsemanship… disappointing I thought this author would know better

It opens the same as 89% of other books: a poor orphan girl taken in by mean innkeepers and a wretch of a woman parroting the same insults
