“you’re trying to recover a whole person, the 1 who was there before, who you didn’t like & tried to bury, who fades into the background…You’re trying to recover this person (…) who is slipping down. But to recover that person, you gotta have a very good reason to pull her back to the surface, bc the battle is brutal, & you get so tired of fighting. It’s sometimes easier to give up and let her sink.”
