I wish the narrative wouldn't go on and on about Pathologist Murchinson's beauty. To be fair, the narration is basically coming from Dr Conway, and he married her. But it comes up in situations where it should be irrelevant.

Heh. A mild case of the following situation. A higher ranked officer who just showed up should listen to orders from the lower ranked officer who knows what's going on. There's a Schlock Mercenary maxim for that, but I don't remember the number.

I wish there was a little more follow up. I don't just want the ET patient out of danger and it's peculiarly puzzled out. I want the patient safely recovering and ideally actively communicating.

Some of the aliens sound like the monsters from the Monsters Inc universe.

I think this might be an origin story. No wonder certain decisions are being made that way. They don't have the resources.

The book uses the term "bisexual" where I think it means "hermaphroditic". That is, containing the full, functional sets of both sexes. If the whole species is like that barring birth differences, doesn't that mean that the species has basically one gender?

Ah, a minor detail from a running gag that bugged me has been addressed. The various unconscious prejudices are starting to shrink or be removed.
