This is getting increasingly problematic. In the 10th letter he suggests that someone grieving the death of their best friend may have lost them bc they loved them too much. This is a disgusting sentiment. Yes, anything we put over God is an idol and thus wrong, but even Jesus cried at the tomb of Lazarus. Then in the 11th letter he says he won’t pray for someone’s pain to go away, which also isn’t biblical!

So far I love the general principle of this book—being in constant communion with God—but I don’t like how the author takes brother Lawrence’s experience of coming away more confused after taking with others about his thoughts and problems and seemingly prescribing only bringing things to God. It has been mentioned multiple times already, yet this is not a biblical mentality to withhold from our community.
