This book, while trying to persuade the reader otherwise, reads like an opposition for the kind of people who typically work these jobs. The motherly need to support a girl at her work, to me, doesn’t come across as genuine but as a private plea from the author to her coworker to not be poor because it makes her sad. She’s a character of a journalist, thinking she’d cause more of a stir with her little secret.
