One of my favorite things about this novel is that it reads less like the traditional tale of American settlers in the west, and more like a horror novel. That somehow seems more authentic and real. The steady drumbeat of unease feels entirely relatable and true to what the pioneer experience must have been like. I also find Beret so interesting and relatable!
