I feel like the repeated references to her friend’s death start to take away from the plot rather than deepen it. I think it might be more effective if those moments were used more selectively, maybe transitioning into flashbacks or specific memories. That way we’d get more character development and emotional depth without interrupting the forward momentum of the story.
