I’m really digging in.
Is it wrong to say this reminds me of Jared Diamond’s Guns, Germs, and Steel?
But I will say that it’s been over 20 years since I’ve read it
Also, he goes into more detail about African manufacturing in textiles or iron than Diamond. As well as dance. But he qualifies it.
It he says African traditional religion stifled scientific and economic development on the continent. (Comments)

I just finished the intro which was basically an obituary for Walter Rodney. His 38 years of life were full of integrity and love for who he calls “the children of Africa.”
I always forget that Pan-Africanist and black liberation movements were founded in, existed, grew, and thrived in South America and the Caribbean.
I tend to remember the conservative elements in that region that led to his demise :(

From what I understand, with many West African philosophies, economic and medical development are intertwined. I wonder if he knew that when he wrote this?
