Priority reread in preparation for Dread Knight.
Reading slump has prevented me from getting around to 'core' books for me and Dread Knight is sadly one of them. While I am confident in my memory of the broad plot beats just to jump straight in, I feel it would be best experienced with fresh memory of the prior 3 books.

I don't think I've ever run into an organisation quite like the Paladames in the fiction I've read. There's just something so refreshing about seeing women embody such a wide variety and different roles in a fantasy setting, and be actively involved in creating solutions to the problems they face.

Ghore's "gift" scene is so incredibly well written. Exactly the right amount of build up, and such a brilliant use of the fantasy setting. If I was rich I would pay so much money to see this played out on screen.

I remember on my first read of the book finding handling of POV chapters brilliant, and that remains true today. The format of sticking with a character for multiple chapters before switching serves the reading experience so much better than books where it changes every chapter. Really gives the narrative time to sit with the events and characters reaction to them.

Making slow progress as I struggle to carve out time for reading these days, but this is still just as wonderful as when I last read it. The character work, the world-building, the atmosphere. Ah, what a wonderful blessing to have this series.
