Mc beaton is def gone and missed. Hamish isn't treating the villagers with the same dignity. Hamish is acting above them. Hamish isn't caring for his pets the way he did. He's chatty Cathy with this American in a very unlikely way. He talks badly about the villagers to this outsider and expresses political views on guns multiple times , also something unfamiliar to the character.
