I spent a few weeks away from this book. While it’s highly captivating, it feels like a story best read at a leisurely pace. The world of Osten Ard is stunning, even in its darkest corners. Part of the slower rhythm comes from the fact that this is the notorious “middle book” of the trilogy, the one where everything seems to go wrong.
