The few times I have read Nietzsche I thought either I do not have enough brain cells to comprehend his writing or he's on another planet and not in a good way. Surely I'm just not getting it if he's claimed to be one of the most influential philosophers out there.

No he actually is on another planet. Just incoherent ramblings. There is a fine line between madness and genius I suppose.
