One thing Laura Bates gives voice to in this book is the amount of victim shaming that happens when women are victimized with deepfake images, instead of there being a focus on the accountability of those who created them. Recently in my home state, a high school girl who had deepfake images of her passed around her school punched the boy who created them. The school suspended her. Nothing happened to the boy.

Just started Laura Bates' new book. She explains the nuance in the differences between deepfakes and revenge porn, while including many personal stories from women. "...96 percent of deepfakes are nonconsensual pornography, 99 percent of which features women." She further observes that most of mainstream media's accounts of deepfakes focus on how they affect politics and business, not women.
