Yeah never mind. I just read an UshiOi fanfic last night with more character growth and definitely more relatable internal tension than this. To be fair, though, it is a very good fanfic.

This is quite a depressing read and at heart surprisingly hollow.
Also Lacey has the colorful personality of a fictitious female character written by a male writer with miserably few female girls and whose only trope under his belt is "mystery girl". Why did Lacey and Ben get together again?
But seriously, Lacey is bland beside the main trio who happens to be guys.

Ok I take back my comment about Green's lackluster efforts in writing relationship. I love how this contains the shortest ever and most rational but in the most reasonably realistic sense geh fight between three bros. This is awesome.

189 pages of am-i-the-only-sober-person-or-am-i-just-apathetic and wow-i-sure-(ironically-)love-the-age-of-post-irony and why-do-i-even-care and am-i-spiralling. This book sure is successful in delivering the theme of performative/plastic modern life slash and I can't even fucking tell if I'm happy about it or not.

"Jesus, no," I said. "You're" (...) not skinny, but that's the whole point of you; the point of you is that you don't look like a boy.
Is that how you write attraction?
Anyway I'm so glad I didn't study in an American (US) highschool. The overflowing hormones and objectifying/self-objectifying flirting and cheap thrills feel like stains on motel sheets.
