I don't believe that Pale King was near completion when DFW committed suicide. Had he lived, I wouldn't be surprised if 2/3rds of what I've read would be deleted. There are moments of brilliance which remind readers (and lovers of IJ) that DFW was perhaps the most talented writer of the late 20th century, but there is no plot and the artistic expression of illustrating boredom in an IRS office is just that - boring.
