Shaping up to be a short read. I'm wishy washy on it right now, trying to feel out how it'll go.
I do find it crazy that this girl is in highschool, discovered she was trans 3 years ago, and *seems* to have gotten srs already. The timeline on that is shocking, I mean it is fiction, I get it, just being done is cool.
Also I do find the neurotically anxious, excuse my 4tran, gigapassoid a very funny archetype

The afterword was good. I understood that almost exactly from the beginning, but I like that she was explicit about it. The author wanted her to be as "girl" as possible—as normatively trans as possible.
That way, the bulk of the story doesn't have to be about being trans, but one specific trans girl's excitement at a fresh start at a new school, and the joy she experiences after finally feeling normal. That's great

jfc, escalated like a mf. I mean, I guess I was kinda waiting for the hat to drop the whole book, but I thought it was gonna be more lighthearted and shit. damn.

Okay, okay, it's fun; I admit it. I still stand by it being mostly just sweet and typical, but I'm actually a sucker for typicality.
I think it's fun to see a trans girl in a book, mostly just be a girl. Without everything having to tie back to her transness—that gets fucking annoying.
So far, she's mostly just a highschooler living through a nice highschool experience

So this has crossed into wish-fulfillment territory for me. That's not entirely bad, some bits make me a little giddy. I think I'm a fan of YA novels, because I'm a 20 year old 14 year old girl, and have no taste. Amanda's funny to me, cause she's supposed to be kinda nerdy and apparently that means star wars and daft punk.
