When you're 36 and your husband's 81 and you say you're "[looking] for the father image ... There's nothing wrong with that ... Fred's part-father to me." ..... ???

Fred Astaire was fascinated with crime and police work and sometimes went to crime scenes or the morgue FOR FUN??

Describing Fred Astaire's character in Daddy Long Legs as "the foster parent with whom [Leslie Caron] falls in love" is, at once, remarkably succinct, incredibly accurate, and reminds me of why I hate that movie so much.

"She's just beautiful, trained, very strong in whatever we did. When [Cyd Charisse] and I were dancing, we didn't know what time it was."

This book is otherwise pretty good, but claiming that Astaire's only blackface number was "totally devoid of racial stereotype"??? uh what???
